NATO + Microlearning

This video was created as part of a project for IDT 9000 Instructional Design & Performance Improvement, part of the Ed. D. program at Baker University

The Ed. D. program in Instructional Design and Performance Technology program at Baker University has been enjoyable, challenging and eye-opening.

I created this video as part of the cover page for our final paper, a group project designed to emulate the AECT Design and Development Competition.

In this project, we were tasked with creating a training proposal for a client (in this case The North Atlantic Treaty Organization) who is interested in pursing microlearning strategies as part of their existing training program.

The group project had us work through the steps necessary to create a client proposal. As is the nature of such a proposal, we were trying to sell the idea of microlearning to NATO’s e-Learning Program Manager.

The video overview attempts to do just that in 45-seconds. I’m always looking for ways to use my strengths and creating this video was an enjoyable way to explore some content creation strategies I haven’t previously used.

Typically, I create videos with live interview subjects, actors, or event footage. This was an interesting challenge in that I only had my voice over to work with and had to create additional content instead of the traditional B-roll.

I recorded and edited the voice over using Adobe Audition. I edited the video with FCPX with additional motion graphics elements from Motion Master Templates and text elements from LenoFX.com.

For posterity, the problem statement we were working from is included below as well as our final paper.
